We had a wonderful Thanksgiving trip to Portland to spend time with Mike's brother Aaron, his wife Jamie, and their two girls. I get the itch to get out of town, break the routine and this trip was just what we all needed. We were incredibly sad to come home to a message that one of our friends from church had been in an accident. We went up to the hospital Sunday night and saw her for a few moments and it was so scary to see her with all the tubes and monitors coming out of her body. She had been unconscious for a few days, but her prognosis looked good until she had a seizure that sent her into a coma. After running an EKG and CT scan to check the brain activity and blood flow to the brain, they determined there was none. She passed away last night.
Her name is Heather Marchant and she is a mother of 5 children--4 boys ages 12, 9, 5, and 3 and they finally got their girl who is 2. This year has been rough for her and her family. She had back surgery in July and a hysterectomy a couple months later. Her husband, Eric, switched jobs the end of October and their health insurance did not start until December 1, too late to cover any of the medical expenses.
We always like to give somewhere, somehow for Christmas to someone in need and we hadn't yet picked our place to give our donation this year. If you are looking for somewhere to give this season, the Marchant family would be great recipients. We've been thinking about the Marchants a lot the past few days. We feel so bad for Eric and the decisions he is making this week. It brings back so many memories of those first days after Evan died. It makes it that much worse that the accident happened on Thanksgiving. Michelle Marchant has a blog that Tymon can check (it's a private one). She's the point person for the Marchant family...and Mike is for the ward? Or is that you? We are supposed to bring dinner on Sunday. I'm assuming that this will be delayed considering the amount of family in town for the funeral. Would you let me know? Thanks!
I can't believe it, the poor Snohomish first Ward. You are all in our prayers! Give them our love Eric was our home teacher.
